Studies
Luxembourg primary education in Dudelange and secondary education at the LHCE in Esch/Alzette was followed by a nearly useless year of medicine studies at the CULuxembourg (as it was called in those days), then two more successful years of medicine studies at Université de Liège, Belgium.
Doing what I had to do I switched to biology at the same university and got my degree in animal biology after only 3 years, including 6 months of degree thesis on wolf’s diet at Università degli Studi di Parma.
After my studies I relatively quickly found work as a biologist at the Fondation Hellef fir d’Natur (now natur&ëmwelt)
May 2003 I left the Foundation, to start a research-thesis to obtain a DPhil at the University of Sussex… handed it in end of March 2007, had the viva in July 2007, corrections handed in in January 2008, received an invitation to the graduation Ceremony in July 2008… it’s been a long but worthwhile way….
It was financed with a Bourse de Formation-Recherche, in collaboration with Administration des Eaux et Forêts (now Administration de la nature et des forêts), Luxembourg, I received a Chevening Scholarship from the British Council in 2006 and some of the travelling to the conferences was financially supported by the Fonds National de la Recherche.
The subject of the thesis was: Diet, condition and population structure of the wild boar Sus scrofa population in Luxembourg and the effects of supplemental feeding
The viva was set to the 19th of July 2007 - I passed, did the “minor corrections”, handed in…
I would like to thank the examiners for the time they have taken to do such a good job.The thesis was accepted in the beginning of 2008, graduation ceremonies were held on the 24th of July in Brighton - a great experience, especially as it was Lord Attenborough’s last session as the University’s Chancellor.
Have a look at this short video sequence of the Summer Laudatio 2008.If you would like a digital copy of the complete thesis, send an e-mail to
